The difference
Ambient capture and focused help
A pendant reaches the conversations software cannot: the corridor, the lunch, the workshop with no call attached. That is a genuine category of lost information and no desktop application can touch it.
It also puts a recording device on your chest in rooms where other people did not choose it, which is a social and legal question rather than a technical one. Whisperer's boundary is narrower and, for that reason, simpler to explain to the person opposite you.

Limits

System audio is where the other side comes from, and a room does not produce it. In-person conversation is entirely outside what this covers.

One recording at a time, not an archive migration
A finished recording can be uploaded: the Meetings section takes one file up to 25 MB — mp3, m4a, wav, ogg, flac, aac, plus mp4 and webm, from which the audio track is used. What is missing is bulk upload of a whole archive; and it spends the same minutes a live call does.

Choosing between the two
Can Whisperer record an in-person meeting?
Not usefully. Your microphone hears the room as one stream, so nothing is attributed and the assistant has no second side to listen to.
Does Whisperer need hardware?
No — a Mac or Windows computer you already have, and two permissions on it.
Which is better for recall a year later?
Depends what you want to recall. Whisperer keeps your calls searchable indefinitely; it keeps nothing else because it hears nothing else.
What about consent?
Worth thinking about in both cases, and harder with ambient capture because the people around you did not opt into it.
Ask where your conversations happen
If the important ones are on a screen, this is the narrower and simpler tool. If they are in rooms, it is not the tool at all.
