Fireflies sends a notetaker into the meeting. That single design choice explains most of what follows: it can cover calls you are not on, and everyone in the room can see it. Whisperer never joins anything, and correspondingly cannot cover a call without you.

The difference
The bot is a feature and a cost at the same time
A notetaker that joins can be dispatched to meetings you skip, and it captures the call from the service rather than from your speakers. Those are real advantages and it is silly to pretend otherwise.
What they cost: a visible participant, an app that many organisations require an administrator to approve, and a guest list that now includes something belonging to a vendor. On external calls that is a conversation you have to have.

A finished recording can be uploaded: the Meetings section takes one file up to 25 MB — mp3, m4a, wav, ogg, flac, aac, plus mp4 and webm, from which the audio track is used. What is missing is bulk upload of a whole archive; and it spends the same minutes a live call does.
It hears what your computer plays. A meeting you skipped produces nothing.

Can I avoid the bot showing up in client calls?
With Whisperer there is nothing to avoid — nothing joins. That is the main reason people who sell to enterprises move to an overlay.
Does Whisperer have an API?
Yes, and an MCP server that lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor read the meetings you share. The shape is different: personal access rather than an org-wide pipeline.
Which handles a call I am not on?

Which helps me during the call?
