Real-Time Translation
Whisperer translates what the other person says while they are still speaking and shows the translation right in the overlay — no window switching. Translation over someone else's call is the Max plan and the macOS or Windows app only; it is not on Start or Pro. Subtitles inside a meeting you open in Whisperer itself are a different feature: they run in the browser and are available on the paid plans.
When to Use
- Calls with foreign partners or colleagues.
- Interviews in a foreign language where you need to understand questions and quickly prepare answers.
- Negotiations with clients across multiple languages.
- Language learning: meetings with native speakers with instant translation of unclear utterances.
How to Enable
- Open client Settings (gear icon).
- Find the "Real-Time Translation" section and turn the toggle on.
- Set "My language" and "Other person's language".
- Pick the "Translation engine": "Classic" translates after each phrase and lets you choose a voice; "Live" translates as the speech goes, but there is no voice choice.
- Start or resume a session — the "Translation active" indicator appears in the overlay.
What the Translation Looks Like
While translation is running, the overlay shows two plates — "Original" and "Translation":
- The plates carry the latest utterance from either side, yours or the other person's.
- The translation appears one to two seconds after the original utterance.
- The ordinary transcript strip steps aside for them: two strips in a row would show the same speech twice, raw and translated. The transcript itself is not lost — it stays in the session history.
- You can hide the plates with the "Show subtitles" toggle and keep only the spoken translation.
Translation Settings
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| My language | The language you speak |
| Other person's language | The language they speak |
| Translation engine | "Classic" — after each phrase, with a voice choice; "Live" — as the speech goes |
| My voice, Other person's voice | Which voice the translation is spoken in, on the "Classic" engine |
| Show subtitles | The "Original" and "Translation" plates in the overlay |
| Duck the original | The other person's voice gets quieter while the translation plays; how much is set separately |
| Translation volume | How loud the translation itself is |
Common Errors
| Error | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Translation will not turn on | Real-time translation is on the Max plan only | Move to Max — it is not on Start or Pro |
| Translation switches on and goes dark by itself | The client prints the reason as a line right under the toggle | Read it: usually an exhausted quota or an unavailable language |
| The other person cannot hear the translation | The audio cable is not installed — translation goes your way only | Settings offer to install it with a button next to the toggle |
| Translation lags by more than 5 seconds | Slow internet connection | Check the connection: translation is an extra round trip over the network |
Best Practices
- Take the "Live" engine when speed matters more, and "Classic" when the chosen voice and even phrasing matter more.
- Turn on "Duck the original" so the other person's voice does not fight the translation; the slider sets how much quieter.
- Use AI suggestions together with translation: once you understand what was said, you can ask Whisperer to draft a reply right away.
